Chandrasekhar Post-Doctoral Fellowships

Applications can be submitted any time of the year

The Director, IIA invites applications from exceptionally bright candidates with outstanding academic credentials for the award of 'Chandrasekhar Post-Doctoral Fellowships' in all areas of astronomy and astrophysics.

The fellowship is for a period of two years with a possibility of an extension for one more year. Candidates should be ordinarily below the age of 32 years. The monthly stipend is Rs.25,000/- for candidates with up to 2 years post-doctoral experience and Rs.30,000/- for those with more than 2 years experience. Chandra Fellows would be entitled to an annual contingency grant of Rs.1,00,000/-, as well as to housing, medical and other benefits in accordance with the rules of the institute. Travel support by economy air fare will be available at the time of taking up the assignment. Chandra Fellows may choose their own research topics or collaborate with groups or individuals in the institute.

Application may be submitted any time of the year by E-mail: pdf_chandra@iiap.res.in along with a curriculum vitae, list of publications, research proposal and names and addresses of five referees. Processing of the applications takes about three months,

Applications can be submitted any time of the year

The Institute offers challenging opportunities to young researchers working in theory, observation and instrumentation in the research fields listed below. Selected candidates, as post doctoral fellows, are expected to work in close collaboration with members of the research groups at the institute and are also encouraged to carry out independent research. The duration of the fellowship is normally two years, with a possible extension for another year. The selected candidates will receive a fellowship and a book grant. Accommodation and medical facilities will also be provided.

Applications are invited from candidates with a Ph.D degree in Physical / Mathematical Sciences from a recognised University / Institute. Candidates should preferably be below the age of 36 years. Application should include curriculum vitae, list of publications, and a research proposal. Completed applications and two letters of recommendation (to be sent directly by the referees) should be sent to the following address:

Post Doctoral Programme Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Koramangala, Bangalore - 560034, INDIA

Applications will be considered throughout the year.

Applications and recommendations may also be sent by E-mail to: pdf@iiap.res.in
