Purpose:

Annual award to support Japanese and American scholars and researchers who are conducting research in the social sciences and humanities relevant to matters of pressing worldwide concern, problems common to advanced industrial societies, or issues relating to improving Japan-U.S. relations.

Field of Study:

Eligibility:

U.S. citizen or permanent resident, Japanese citizen, or other national who can demonstrate strong, long-term affiliations with the research community of the U.S. or Japan. Must have received a Ph.D. Must be affiliated with a host academic institution. Language training not necessarily required.

Award:

3 to 12 months of full-time support. At least one-third of the time should be spent abroad (in the U.S. or Japan). Funds can be used in a third country if necessary to the project.
